Japan resumed entry by individual travelers for tourism purposes beginning on October 11. JNTO looks forward to welcoming you back to Japan with the long-awaited lifting of entry restrictions. The resumption of individual travel to Japan and visa waivers, and the elimination of the daily arrival cap will allow international visitors to enjoy Japan in more ways than in the past two-and-a-half years. These measures are long-awaited news for tourists around the world who have been looking forward to visiting Japan. We are eager to welcome you back!

Japan Named #2 in the World by Conde Nast Traveler 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards

Condé Nast Traveler announced the results of its annual Readers' Choice Awards with Japan recognized as the #2 in the best country in the world category. Tokyo was also recognized as #3 in the best big cities in the world category in this year's Readers' Choice Awards.

JNTO Promoted Inbound Tourism at "Taste of Japan in New York"

On September 21st, Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) had a booth at “Taste of Japan in New York,” a reception to promote Japanese food and culinary tradition. The prime minister Fumio Kishida stopped by our booth. In his greeting, he mentioned the lifting of travel restrictions for international tourists and encouraged travelers to visit Japan.

What You Need to Know about Japan Customs and Duty Upon Entry

Customs Clearance

If you illegally import meat, meat products, plants and plant products in to Japan when travelling, you will be charged with a fine.  In order to avoid any potential quarantine and/or fine upon entry into Japan, we strongly suggest each traveler check which items are restricted.
